Hardware Connectivity Guide

 

CalMAN Studio takes advantage of DAVIO’s unique 1D & 3D LUT processor features, as well as the internal Profile Generator. DAVIO provides controls for CalMAN Studio to calibrate an 11 or 21 point grayscale LUT and up to a 65x65x65 3D cube LUT for SMPTE video level signals or full range PC level signals. This quick start guide assists you in setting up the DAVIO for use with CalMAN 5, CalMAN Studio and CalMAN DAVIO.

Recommended CalMAN Workflows:

  • SI Basic to optimize panel or projector Picture controls.
  • Color Cube or CalMAN Studio to calibrate DAVIO grayscale RGB balance and 3D LUT.
  • CalMAN V5.0.3 or later
  • DAVIO 1040 or 1050 system software package
  • Ethernet straight through (standard) cable

Required DAVIO Firmware:

  •  DAVIO 1040 or 1050 system software package

DAVIO Control Connection:

  • Ethernet straight through (standard) cable 

DAVIO Hardware Setup

CalMAN V5.0.3 and later automatically configures the DAVIO as both the Profile Generator (Test Pattern Source) and the Display Processor (Display Control), without connecting an external jumper cable. The Monitor under Calibration can be connected to either SDI OUT (1) or HDMI OUT. The DAVIO and the display to be calibrated are set up as follows:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DAVIO Control Software Setup

To set up a DAVIO for 1D LUT grayscale calibration and 3D LUT color calibration:

  1. Install DAVIO Control application software on your computer.   (See DAVIO Software Quick Start on installing DAVIO Control).
  2. Connect both the DAVIO and the CalMAN computer to a DHCP-capable network router with standard Ethernet cables.
  3. Start the DAVIO Control software.
  4. On the DAVIO tab, click the Discoverer button to find DAVIOs on the network, then click Connect.
  5. On the DAVIO tab, select either the 1040 or 1050 DAVIO package.
  6. Record the unit’s IP address.

 

 

 

 

Configure DAVIO Input Color Space

  1. On the Inputs tab in DAVIO Control, select Full range for all DAVIO inputs.

(Even if you are calibrating to SMPTE range, the DAVIO needs to be set for full range).

  1. Select Reset for the input 1D LUTs.

 

Select Input tab.

Select YCbCr Full - input 1&2

Select DL RGB Full – HDMI

Set all 1D LUTs to “Reset”

 

 

Or, from the DAVIO front panel

  1. Right until LCD reads “SDI In 1”
  2. Down then right LCD Read “CSC Matrix”
  3. +/- until LCD Reads “CSC Matrix YCbCr Full” 
  4. Right until LCD reads “1D LUT File”
  5. +/- until LCD Reads “1D LUT File Reset” 
  6. (Repeat for SDI Input 2 and HDMI Input)

 

Configure DAVIO Output Color Space

  • On the Outputs tab in DAVIO Control, select Full range for all DAVIO outputs. (Even if you are calibrating to SMPTE range, the DAVIO needs to be set for full range).
  • Select Reset for the output 1D LUTs.

 

Select Outputs tab.

Select YCbCr Full - out 1&2

Select DL RGB Full – HDMI

Set all 1D LUTs to Reset

 

 

Or, from the DAVIO front panel

  1. Right until LCD reads “SDI Out 1”
  2. Down then right LCD reads “CSC Matrix”
  3. +/- until LCD reads “CSC Matrix YCbCr Full” 
  4. Right until LCD reads “1D LUT File”
  5. +/- until LCD reads “1D LUT File Reset” 
  6. (Repeat for SDI Output 2 and HDMI Output)
  • On the 3D LUTs tab in DAVIO Control, set one slot to a unity LUT and set the other slots to Unloaded. If you do not have a unity LUT available, you can either;
  • Delete all 3D LUTS from the DAVIO CF card,  or 
  • Download a unity LUT from the Cine-tal website and load it to the slot via DAVIO Control- “Load LUT to Current Slot.”
  • On the 3D LUTs tab in DAVIO Control, select the Profile Generator as the 3D LUT 1 Source.

 

 

Or, from the DAVIO front panel

  1. Right until LCD reads “3D LUT 1”
  2. Down - LCD reads “Select 3D LUT”
  3. +/- until LCD reads “Unity LUT filename ”
  4. Right until LCD reads “3D LUT 1 Source”
  5. +/- until LCD reads “Profile Generator” 

 

 

 

Configure DAVIO Output Source

  • On the Outputs tab in DAVIO Control, set the SDI Out or HDMI Out (whichever is connected to the monitor) to 3D LUT 1.
  •  Set SDI Out, or HDMI Out Source to 3D LUT

  1. Right until LCD reads “SDI Out 1”
  2. Down - LCD reads “SDI Out 1 Source”
  3. +/- until LCD reads “3D LUT 1” 
  4. Right until LCD reads “HDMI Out”
  5. Down - LCD reads “HDMI Out Source”
  6. +/- until LCD reads “3D LUT 1” 

 

 

 

 

Verify DAVIO Setup

  • Verify your DAVIO signal routing by selecting different Patch Sizes and Patch Colors on the Generator tab and observing the changes on the connected display to be calibrated.
  • Verify the Profile Generator setup by changing the Patch Size and Patch Color.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CalMAN Studio Calibration Software Setup

To connect the DAVIO to CalMAN Studio for grayscale calibration and 3D LUT calibration:

  1. In the CalMAN computer, either turn off all firewall port blocking or add an exception for the previously recorded DAVIO IP address (DAVIO uses TFTP for LUT file transfers). (In the DAVIO front panel Unit Info menu, press the right arrow button to read the unit’s IP address.)
  2. In CalMAN, under “Find Source,” select “Cine-tal – Davio.”
  3. Enter the DAVIO IP address in the edit box, then click Connect.

 

  • In CalMAN, under “Find Display,” select “Cine-tal – Davio.”
  • Enter the DAVIO IP address in the edit box, then click Connect.
  • Load the CalMAN Studio Pro or Color Cube workflow.
  • Set the Grayscale Data Pointsto 21 points.
  • Perform the CalMAN Studio or Color Cube workflow steps to create the DAVIO 1D grayscale LUT and the DAVIO 3D cube LUT, to fully calibrate the connected display.

Set up DAVIO for Calibrated Monitor Operation

 

  1. With your source signal connected to a DAVIO input, select proper routing of the source into the 3D LUT.
  2. On the 3D LUTs tab, select your source input under 3D LUT Source.
  3. Verify that the correct “.CLT” calibration LUT is loaded and selected on the DAVIO 3D LUT processor. [The LUT is named “1_416### .clt”, where ### is the last 3 digits of your DAVIO serial number this is different than the “.CSV” greyscale LUT which is a 1D LUT and named “1_416### .csv” ]
  • Set 3D LUT Source.
  • Set 3D Calibration LUT (1_416###.CLT)

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. With your monitor connected to a DAVIO output, select proper routing of the 3D LUT to the monitor output.
  2. Verify that the 3D LUT is selected as the source on the output connected to the monitor.
  3. Verify that the 1D LUT is selected on the output connected to the monitor. [The LUT is named “1_416### .csv”, where ### is the last 3 digits of your DAVIO serial number]

 

Set Output Source to 3D LUT.

Set 1D LUT  to (1_416###.CSV)

 

 

 

 

DONE - Calibration And Setup Complete.
